There are several options to tour Kenai Fjords National park by boat, and our favorite company is Kenai Fjords Tours. They offer a variety of boat tours to meet the needs of every traveler and schedule. If you’re short on time, they offer a Resurrection Bay tour, which is about 4 hours long and includes a tour around the perimeter of the bay. We opted for the 6-hour Classic Kenai Fjords National Park Tour, which includes time in
Resurrection Bay as well as close-up views of the Ailik Glacier. Our captain heard about whale sightings a bit off of the “normal” route, and the detour was well worth it! We saw many humpback whales exhale through their blowholes before diving deep down into the ocean. In addition to the whales, we
saw puffins, sea lions, and harbor seals. Not only did we see hundreds of animals, we also got a close look at multiple glaciers and the captain was sure to circle so that every seat had a front-row view of the awesome scenery. The tour includes a hot lunch (our was a chicken burrito) and they also have bar service (don’t miss the “Glacier-rita, made with real glacier ice!) and a snack counter. We were delighted with fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies as our tour approached the harbor.
